Bačka Topola achieves budget savings with new LED lighting through a public-private partnership project
21 May 2024, Bačka Topola – The citizens of Bačka Topola Municipality have a new lighting system, implemented through a public-private partnership contract for the replacement, rationalization, and maintenance of part of the public lighting system by applying energy-saving measures.
The consortium of PLC Interenergo and Smart Energy Investment independently financed the project without incurring any debt for the Municipality. The project of public lighting reconstruction in Bačka Topola achieves approximately 70% savings in electricity consumption, with annual savings amounting to about 1.4 million kWh, or more than 20 million kWh over the 15-year contract period.
Among the most significant advantages of this PPP project is the financial savings in the Municipality’s budget, amounting to at least 18,300 euros annually, or 274,500 euros over the 15-year period.
The project not only saves money but also brings other significant benefits, such as reducing carbon dioxide emissions and improving the quality of life for citizens. It is estimated that the new public lighting in this Municipality will contribute to reducing CO2 emissions by approximately 1,520 tons annually.
The President of Bačka Topola Municipality, Mr. Adrian Satmari, emphasized, “This project not only brings savings to the budget but also introduces technology that will make our Municipality modern, sustainable, and responsible to the needs of citizens and the environment. Today, Bačka Topola is not only better lit but also safer for its citizens, which is of utmost importance to us due to the large number of cyclists,” said Satmari.
The project involved the installation of 5,660 LED luminaires from the renowned manufacturer Schreder, which have significantly improved the quality of lighting and contributed to the Municipality’s aesthetics. This project has set standards for energy-efficient solutions in public lighting and provides an example for other local governments in Serbia.
