Subotica saves an additional 1.9 million euros through Public-Private Partnership

Subotica, August 28, 2025 – Following the first phase of the streetlight replacement project in suburban areas, the City of Subotica achieved savings of more than 1 million euros, instead of the initially projected 360,000 euros over a four-year period. Today, the second phase of the project has been successfully completed, generating additional budget savings of approximately 1.9 million euros over the next 15 years.

This second phase will further ensure an annual reduction in electricity consumption by as much as 76%, equivalent to more than 125,600 MWh over the contract period. CO₂ emissions will be reduced by more than 138,036 tons during the same period.

High-quality lighting has been provided in compliance with the EN 13201 standard, resulting in significantly improved illumination and greater public safety. The expected lifespan of Schreder streetlights and reflectors is 25 years, almost twice the duration of the contract.

The City of Subotica had no additional financial outlays in either phase of the project, as the entire investment was financed by the private partner, with all installed equipment immediately transferred to the City’s ownership upon installation. The agreement between the City of Subotica and the private partner was concluded for a duration of 15 years.

Through this public-private partnership project, the City of Subotica not only reduces its costs but also achieves significant environmental and energy efficiency benefits an important step toward sustainable development and energy efficiency.
