PPP Project Brings Over 2,700 New Luminaires to the Municipality of Mali Iđoš

Mali Iđoš, April 2, 2025 – The Municipality of Mali Iđoš has successfully implemented a project for the reconstruction, modernization, and maintenance of public lighting through a Public-Private Partnership (PPP) model – without incurring additional debt. As a result of this initiative, the municipality is expected to achieve significant financial and energy savings over the next 15 years.

By implementing this PPP project, the Municipality will reduce its public lighting expenses by 7% over the same 15-year period, compared to previous costs.

The Mayor of Mali Iđoš, Mr. Marko Lazić, stated: “The reconstruction of public lighting represents a major step forward for our municipality in terms of energy efficiency and improving the quality of life for our citizens. In addition to the savings on electricity and the municipal budget, we can now redirect resources to other vital projects. This project required no financial contribution from the local government, and it brought us additional benefits as well.”

In addition to financial savings, the project will reduce electricity consumption by 8 million kWh over 15 years, representing a 64% reduction. This directly contributes to environmental protection and improved energy efficiency, with an estimated reduction of more than 8,800 tons of CO₂ emissions over the contractual period. The new public lighting meets EN 13201 standards, significantly enhancing traffic and pedestrian safety.

The project included the installation of over 2,700 LED luminaires and reflectors. The expected lifespan of the new lighting equipment, produced by Signify, is 25 years, nearly twice the duration of the contract. The entire investment was financed by the private partner, with no additional burden on the municipal budget. All installed equipment was immediately transferred into municipal ownership at no additional cost.

This Public-Private Partnership project stands as a strong example of efficient public fund utilization and smart energy resource management, delivering multiple benefits to the citizens of Mali Iđoš – from improved public infrastructure and safety to environmental protection and budgetary savings.
