Smart City Study – Modernization and Utilization of Public Lighting Infrastructure in the City of Valjevo for the Implementation of SMART Solutions to Achieve Energy Efficiency and Reduce CO₂ Emissions
Smart Energy Investment Kft received a grant of 29,000,000 HUF from the Western Balkans Green Center for the project identified under reference WBGC-2020/2-2020-00031.
As part of the project, Preliminary Project Technical (PPT) documentation and a feasibility study were prepared, necessary for the transformation of the public lighting system in the City of Valjevo. During project implementation, a precise analysis was conducted comparing the current and projected annual electricity consumption of the city’s public lighting system.
As a result of the planned modernization, annual energy savings of 4,072,365.78 kWh could be achieved, which would eliminate the need for burning approximately 2,164 tonnes of lignite per year and result in a reduction of CO₂ emissions by 2,158 tonnes annually. The potential use of renewable energy also significantly contributes to climate protection, as one of the project outcomes established that up to 15,319 kWh/year of energy could be generated through the use of solar panels, based on the number of annual sunshine hours in the municipality’s geographical location.
The investment proposed in the final PPT documentation was presented to the leadership of the City of Valjevo at a dedicated mini-conference.
