The new public lighting system brings savings of over 3 million euros to the people of Užice.
2. september 2024, Užice – Grad Užice uspešno je realizovao projekat rekonstrukcije, racionalizacije i održavanja javnog osvetljenja, koristeći model javno-privatnog partnerstva (JPP). Pre realizacije projekta, godišnji troškovi Grada Užica za javno osvetljenje, uključujući potrošnju električne energije i održavanje, iznosili su oko 900 hiljada evra.
With the implementation of the project, the city of Užice will achieve an annual savings of at least 205,000 euros, which will result in a total savings of over 3 million euros over a period of 15 years. The project leads to a significant reduction in electricity consumption, from 5.1 million kWh to a projected 950,000 kWh, representing an 82% savings. Additionally, it contributes to a reduction in CO2 emissions by more than 70,000 tons during the contract period.
The project is fully aligned with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), primarily through a significant reduction in energy consumption and carbon dioxide emissions.
Had this project not been implemented, it is estimated that the city’s costs over the next 15 years would exceed 15 million euros, with a possible additional increase of 30-50% due to rising electricity prices.
The new equipment, which includes approximately 10,000 lamps and reflectors and 250 systems for turning on and off, is expected to last 25 years, which is almost double the contract duration. The equipment was immediately transferred to the ownership of the city of Užice upon installation, with no additional costs for the city.
Through this project, the city of Užice has secured a sustainable way of financing the modernization of public lighting without new financial burdens. Already, the city is realizing significant savings, which can be redirected to other development projects. The project was carried out in collaboration with private partners, Interenergo and Smart Energy Investment companies, which improved the public lighting system, resulting in significant savings and improved lighting quality.
This public-private partnership project serves as an example of successful collaboration that brings benefits to all users and significantly contributes to improving the quality of life in Užice.
