June 14, 2024, Valjevo - The citizens of Valjevo received new lighting, which was realized through a public-private partnership agreement for the replacement, rationalization and maintenance of the public lighting system, which improved the quality of public lighting and significantly saved electricity.
The project was realized in cooperation with a group of bidders consisting of Smart Energy Investment Belgrade and PLC Interenergo doo Belgrade. Private partners fully financed the project, thus freeing the City of Valjevo from additional financial obligations.
The total annual expenditures of the City of Valjevo for the functioning of public lighting before implementation amounted to more than 1.1 million euros, including electricity and maintenance costs. Public-private partnership project for replacement, rationalization and maintenance of the public system lighting, the City of Valjevo will achieve annual savings of almost 120,000 euros per year, which for the duration of the project of 15 years amounts to a total of about 1.8 million euros. This represents a significant financial benefit for the City.
By implementing the PPP public lighting project, the annual consumption of electricity will be reduced by more than 4.5 million kWh, i.e. in 15 years it will be close to 70 million kWh. Additionally, the reduction of CO2 emissions is estimated at about 5.1 thousand tons per year, or about 76 thousand tons in 15 years.
More than 11,000 lamps and reflectors were installed, as well as 225 systems for turning on and off the lighting. Apart from the financial and environmental benefits, the average brightness is now 202% better in the City of Valjevo.
Due to its characteristics, the public lighting project in the City of Valjevo was also presented at the recently held World Forum on Public-Private Partnership in Istanbul, organized by UNECE, as an example of good practice and compliance with the goals of sustainable development of public-private partnership projects.
