July 2, 2024, Habitat - The municipality of Žitište is actively working on the implementation of energy efficiency measures with the aim of reducing electricity consumption and improving sustainable development. One of the significant projects in this municipality is the modernization of public lighting through a public-private partnership. New energy-efficient LED lamps were installed, which further reduced costs in the Municipality's budget.
With the contract concluded for a period of 15 years, the company Smart Energy Investment fully financed the implementation of LED lighting. Before the start of the project, the annual expenditures of the Municipality of Žitište for electricity and maintenance of public lighting amounted to more than 38 million dinars per year.
Main advantages of the public lighting reconstruction project in Žitište include cost savings for public lighting in the amount of about 3 million dinars on an annual basis, which for the 15 years of the project's duration amounts to over 42 million dinars. The expected savings in annual electricity consumption is 1.3 million kWh, while the total savings in 15 years is more than 20 million kWh, which represents a reduction in electricity consumption of about 80%.
This project is expected to reduce CO2 emissions by more than 1,400 tons per year, or more than 22,000 tons for the 15-year duration of the contract, which significantly contributes to a cleaner and healthier environment.
The maintenance of the replaced part of the public lighting system was undertaken by a private partner, with which the Municipality achieves additional savings in the amount of more than 430 thousand euros during the entire period of the contract.
It is important to note that with this project the Municipality will not have any credit obligations for the implementation of the project, while all installed equipment will immediately become the property of the Municipality free of charge. It is expected that the new lamps and reflectors, from the renowned manufacturer Philips, will have a service life of 25 years, almost twice as long as the duration of the contract.
The municipality of Žitište, through proper channeling of funds and cooperation with a private partner, shows responsibility and commitment to sustainable development and energy efficiency, as another step towards a better and brighter future.
