Mali Iđoš, April 2, 2025 - In the Municipality of Mali Iđoš, the project of reconstruction, modernization and maintenance of public lighting was successfully implemented through a public-private partnership (PPP) model, without additional credit borrowing by the Municipality. Thanks to this project, significant financial and energy savings are expected over the next 15 years.
By implementing the public-private partnership project, the Municipality of Mali Iđoš achieves financial savings of 7% compared to previous costs for the same time period of 15 years.
The President of the Municipality of Mali Iđošu, Marko Lazić, points out that the reconstruction of public lighting for our municipality is a significant step towards energy efficiency and a better quality of life for our citizens. In addition, we will achieve savings in electricity consumption, as well as savings in the budget, and we will direct the funds to other vital projects. The local self-government did not allocate financial resources for this project, and we had additional benefits,' explains Lazić.
In addition to the financial benefits, the project will achieve savings in electricity consumption of 8 million kWh over 15 years, which represents a reduction of about 64%. This contributes to the preservation of the environment and the improvement of energy efficiency, and also reduces the emission of CO2, which is estimated at more than 8,800 tons of CO2 for the contracted period. The lighting of public areas complies with the EN 13201 standard, which significantly improves traffic safety.
The project implemented more than 2,700 lamps and reflectors. The expected lifetime of the new lights and reflectors produced by Signify is 25 years, that is, almost twice as long as the contract. The entire investment was financed by a private partner, without additional burden for the budget of the Municipality of Mali Iđoš. All installed equipment immediately became the property of the Municipality without additional costs.
This public-private partnership project is an example of efficient use of public funds and smart management of energy resources, which achieves multiple benefits for the citizens of the Municipality of Mali Iđoš - from the improvement of public infrastructure and security, to environmental protection and savings in the budget.
